Natural Rubellite Tourmaline

R180,00Price

This is an association of pink tourmaline (rubellite) crystals and mica that formed within a mass of quartz, collected from the Erongo Mountains near Karibib, Namibia.

The pink tourmaline gains its vibrant color from manganese impurities.

Fractures within the quartz have been stabilized with glue to ensure structural stability of the specimen.

Tourmaline is a crystalline boron silicate mineral compounded with elements such as aluminium, iron, magnesium, sodium, lithium, or potassium. Schorl, or black tourmaline, is the most common form of tourmaline, and has been used for everything from jewelry to piezoelectric guitar pickups.

Muscovite is a phyllosilicate mineral of aluminium and potassium.

It has a highly perfect basal cleavage yielding remarkably thin laminæ which are often highly elastic.
